Registration for Confirmation (Reminder)

Don't forget that registration forms for Confirmation have to be returned to the parish office (not the school) before the 11th of November. The forms were handed out to all relevant 6th class boys today at school.

Happy Halloween

Hopefully it will be a fun and safe Halloween mid-term break for Pupils, Parents and Staff.
See you all in November.

Board Game Playing Day

Today in Star of the Sea we had board game playing day. We usually do it as a fundraiser but this year we did it just for fun because we had already brought in money for The Missions earlier in the week. It was great fun and a lovely way to finish the half term.

All support greatly appreciated.

Halloween Safety

Yesterday Garda Pat McDonagh from Ringsend Garda Station came in to speak to the boys in 5th and 6th classes about being safe over the Halloween Period. He gave a general talk about safety with a particular emphasis on being careful near bonfires and he said that it is important to stay away from fireworks.

Aboriginal Pointillism

In History this week we were studying The Aborigines. They are a native race of people from Australia. In integration with these lessons we decided to do some Pointillism. This is a style of painting done by Aborigines using dots. We created all sorts of pictures based on things from nature like turtles, dolphins, jelly-fish, plants, paw prints, lizards, leaves, trees and rivers.

We hope you like them.

Maths Week

In school this week we had Maths week. It was interesting and we got to do fun maths games and activities. Anthony from our class won a share of the prize in "Guess how many sweets are in the jar."

Mobile Phone Collection

One of our big responsibilities in sixth class this year is to collect mobile phones from all the classes in the school. We give the phones to Irish Autism Action and they use them to generate funding for their charity. In return for every 120 phones we donate to them they give the school a brand new laptop to be used by the boys in the school. We sixth class boys are put in pairs and assigned one class in the school to motivate and collect phones from. The first class to bring in 50 phones gets a special treat from Ms.Condon and each class who brings in 50 phones after that gets a night off homework. Our class is currently in the lead with 27 phones closely followed by Mr. O'Maonlaile's class with 21 phones. In total the school has collected over 140 phones so that is one brand new laptop for the school already.

Well done boys.

Football Semi-final. ALL SUPPORT WELCOME

Our school senior team will compete in the Corn Chlann na nGael semi final this Thursday at 2.45pm in Pearse Park, Crumlin. We will play G.S. Cluain Dalgan who provided very stiff competition to us at this stage last year. They will have a very good team.

Hopefully our boys will play to the best of their ability and really enjoy the game. Come on the Star.

ALL SUPPORT WELCOME.

Play Recommendation

For the children who enjoyed the play in the previous blog post there is another very good production coming up this weekend in The Ark Theatre. It is called "Lifeboat" and it was written by Nicola McCartney. It is a drama that is set in World War 2 (which we will be studying later this year).

A True Tall Tale

Last Friday 6th Class went to see "A True Tall Tale" by Gruppe 38 and Carte Blance. The play took place in the Smock Alley Theatre and was organised through the Ark Theatre as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival.
We had a great  day out, the play was very entertaining and everyone loved the hammocks.
Thanks to Finn's Mum who recommended the play and came along to help out on the day.
